Florida Hurricane Season 2021: What You Need To Know

As of June 1, it will be hurricane season in Florida again, and as most Floridian’s know… it can be rough. As the water currents in the oceans move cyclically, the resulting hurricanes happen like clockwork every summer. But how is this year’s forecast looking, we’ll explore in this article.

What’s the forecast?

According to the annual Colorado State University early season forecast, this year is expected to be an above-average season. In fact, there are expected to be up to 17 named storms in the Atlantic this year which would mark the 6th above-average season in a row (though this is down from the record 30 named storms last season).

Here are the chances of the storms making landfall:

● 69% for the entire U.S. coastline (average for the last century is 52%)
● 45% for the U.S. East Coast, including the Florida peninsula (average for the last century is 31%)
● 44% for the Gulf Coast from the Florida panhandle westward to Brownsville (average for the last century is 30%)
● 58% for the Caribbean (average for the last century is 42%)

What does this mean?

This data means that we have another overactive summer of storms. For property owners in Florida, you need to brace yourself for extreme weather and potential property damage. Any precautions you believe need taking should be done now, whether that’s structural or insurance.

In fact, there are expected to be up to 17 named storms in the Atlantic this year which would mark the 6th above-average season in a row (though this is down from the record 30 named storms last season).

Why a public adjuster may be essential

While we all hope for the best, there may be cases where your property ends up getting damaged by the effects of hurricane season, and you need to make a claim. And while insurance is meant to protect you from these eventualities, you can run into problems.

A public adjuster is a professional who will perform the evaluation of a claim on your behalf, not the insurer. They can guide you through the claims process and even help you negotiate with the insurer so that you get the best possible claim. If you’re looking for total peace of mind, even at the height of hurricane season, then there’s no better person to call.
